I don’t normally buy Japanese machines. I primarily collect British, French, German and American vintage. However, iconic models are always of interest to collectors, and the P50 is no exception.

Apart from the Chinese Flying Pigeon (a cycle-attachment knock-off of the Cyclemaster engine) the P50 was the last Cyclemaster-styled machine to be produced, and it is always interesting to see a Japanese version of any British machine – because it invariably works a lot better than the original. This being a 4-stroke, it is certainly the case here.
I purchased this P50 four years ago. Apart from its iconic attraction, I simply couldn’t resist it when I saw it – because it’s just so pretty.

THE HONDA P50

The Honda P50 (known as the P25 in some markets) was introduced in June 1966. It earns a place in history as being the last motor-wheel moped design by Honda (and probably by any other large manufacturer).
It features a step-through frame made from steel pressings, leading-link front suspension, plastic mudguard and chainguard. The fuel tank is located above the rear mudguard. The key distinguishing feature of the design is the 50cc engine being located at the extreme lower left rear of the frame, with all its components housed within the large hub of the rear wheel. Like other Honda mopeds of the time, the engine is a 4-stroke.

I ran this P50 some years ago. Like many fellow cyclemotor collectors, I have weird and wonderful machines that look great but aren’t reliable when it comes to regular use. After years of breaking down and fixing them, we eventually migrate to a machine such as a P50 for runs and commutes because of its reliability.

It was repainted by the previous owner. It’s earned a few subsequent scratches in the paintwork here and there from my usage. But overall it’s in lovely condition.
It should provide the successful bidder with a useful vintage machine to use for summer commutes and shows.
Some original parts such as the saddle and the front rack are becoming hard to find in good original condition. Such items are present on this machine and in good condition.
I hope you can see all you need from these photos. But if you require more info, please phone or email me as below.

2-Stroke engines – and cyclemotors in particular – are notoriously unreliable. Basic servicing is generally required if unused for even a few weeks.
