1967 Honda P50 4-stroke Moped

In running order. New MOT and tax (free).

V5C Registration Document.

Ready to use for local commutes or rallies and shows.

I don’t normally buy Japanese machines. I primarily collect British, French, German and American vintage. However, iconic models are always of interest to collectors, and the P50 is no exception.

Apart from the Chinese Flying Pigeon (a cycle-attachment knock-off of the Cyclemaster engine) the P50 was the last Cyclemaster-styled machine to be produced (ie engine in the back wheel), and it is always interesting to see a Japanese version of any British machine – because it invariably works a lot better than the original. This being a 4-stroke, it is certainly the case here.

The previous owner spent over £600 on its restoration.

The frame has been powder-coated, and it has new tyres and tubes. The paint is by no means concours, but overall the machine is presentable. It has had a top-end engine rebuild, and it starts easily and runs well.

THE HONDA P50

p50-01.jpg

The Honda P50 (known as the P25 in some markets) was introduced in June 1966. It earns a place in history as being the last motor-wheel moped design by Honda (and probably by any other large manufacturer).

It features a step-through frame made from steel pressings, leading-link front suspension, plastic mudguard and chainguard. The fuel tank is located above the rear mudguard. The key distinguishing feature of the design is the 50cc engine being located at the extreme lower left rear of the frame, with all its components housed within the large hub of the rear wheel. Like other Honda mopeds of the time, the engine is a 4-stroke.

Like many fellow cyclemotor collectors, I have weird and wonderful machines that look great but aren’t reliable when it comes to regular use. After years of breaking down and fixing them, we eventually migrate to a machine such as a P50 for runs and commutes because of its reliability.

It should provide the successful bidder with a useful vintage machine to use for summer commutes and shows.

Some original parts such as the saddle and the front rack are becoming hard to find in good original condition. Such items are present on this machine and in good condition.

I hope you can see all you need from these photos. But if you require more info, please phone or email me as below.

CLOSE-UP PHOTOS of PAINTWORK

The black paint is fine. The white paint is patchy in places. You can’t see it in the other photos, only in close up, so I’ve taken extra pictures so you can inspect it in greater detail.

The white paint on the mudguards has chipped right at the front and right at the back. The white paint on the chainguard has peeled. The white paint under the petrol tank is not good where the petrol tap leaked. I’ve since fitted a replacement petrol tap.

2-Stroke engines – and cyclemotors in particular – are notoriously unreliable. Basic servicing is generally required if unused for even a few weeks.

These are rare vehicles whose values are not necessarily based on running order.
Unless an auction description specifically states that the vehicle is running, THE VEHICLE IS SOLD FOR RESTORATION.

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE ABOVE, PLEASE DO NOT BID.
