1980 HONDA C90 STEP-THROUGH MOTORCYCLE

V5C. ‘V’ Registration

Good Running Order.

New MOT.

Low Mileage – 11773 miles.

This is a low-mileage 30-year-old Honda C90 that was dry-stored between 1991 and 2010.

It has been through our workshops, and is now ready to see faithful service as a reliable commuter bike and a classic machine for shows and similar events.

It’s not a concours example by any means: the paint was touched up here and there many years ago, and it has had welding done (to a good standard) at the rear of the frame. This is a classic work-horse – a solid machine in good mechanical order, that should provide its new owner with an enjoyable experience of vintage motoring for many years to come.

We fitted a new rear tyre and new battery, and obviously it has been serviced. The leg-shield is in good condition with no cracks.

The wheels are good, and have polished up well. The front mudguard has been touched up.

CHEAP HONDA STEP-THROUGH PARTS FROM THAILAND

trithai_dec94 copy

If you want to restore an old Honda step-through moped, it’s surprisingly easy to do, given the availability of new-old-stock parts from Thailand. Parts and accessories are always listed on ebay, though usually the shipping costs from Thailand are more expesnive than the cost of the bits.

If I was going to restore one of these, I’d save myself the expense of the postage prices from Thailand that you see on ebay …and fly to Thailand myself for a week to buy all the parts. Take an empty suitcase – cotton clothes are also very cheap in Thailand – enjoy some fabulous food, beaches and weather, buy your parts easily at any motorcycle parts shop (as well as a few extra accessories and parts to re-sell back home on ebay) and you’ll have had a very cheap holiday for the cost of the parts.

There’s a tear in the seat on the offside (below).

There’s surface rust on the offside body, in front of the indicator. But the metal is otherwise good.

REAR RACK & TOP BOX

In my opinion a rear rack and top box spoils the lines of an attractive bike. But if you want somewhere to carry your stuff it’s obviously indispensable. I’ve removed them, but they will go with the bike on sale. There’s also a workshop manual, as you can see below.

VEHICLE CONDITION: Vintage vehicles are wonderful beasts

– but each has an individual personality and they sometimes have bad days just like you and me.
You will need basic mechanical skills (or a local mechanic) to use one on a regular basis.

Two-strokes invariably need basic servicing before starting them, if they’ve been left to stand for more than 3 weeks or so.

These are rare vehicles whose values are not necessarily based on running order.

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE ABOVE, PLEASE DO NOT BID.
